Jefferson Peralez is a lawyer, a former district attorney and a member of the Night City Council who is running for mayor. He presents himself as an idealist who opposes corporate control of the city. He and his wife Elizabeth hire V to look into the death of the old mayor, and the trail leads somewhere far darker than either of them expects.
Biography
Early Life
Jefferson grew up poor and was raised largely by the streets. Discipline, intelligence and a little luck won him a scholarship from Night Corp to study law at a top university. There he met Elizabeth, who studied law on the same scholarship. The two married and returned to Night City together.
The Councilman
On the council, Jefferson made his name as a critic of corporate power. When the council voted to give the city's biggest corporations a tax loophole, he was the only one to vote against it. He can talk to anyone on their own level, but he is forceful when things get serious. He and Elizabeth share their political dreams, and their penthouse in Charter Hill has become a campaign office.
The Mayor's Death
After the sudden death of Mayor Lucius Rhyne, Jefferson becomes convinced it was no accident. Against the advice of his security firm, he asks Elizabeth to find an investigator. Judy Álvarez turns the job down and suggests V. With Detective River Ward, V learns the truth about Rhyne's death.
Later the couple notice strange changes in their own behaviour and memory. V searches their penthouse and finds a hidden room where their security firm has been reshaping their minds. The trail leads to a shadowy group and a mysterious man who seem to want Jefferson in the mayor's office.

Personality
Jefferson is charming, passionate and sure of his own ideals. He believes he can change the city for the better. He can be headstrong, and he does not easily accept that he might be someone else's puppet.
Relationships
Elizabeth Peralez is his wife and closest partner. Lucius Rhyne was the mayor whose death he questions. Weldon Holt is his rival for the office. River Ward helps with the investigation.
Jobs
The Peralez story starts with I Fought the Law, in which V looks into the death of Rhyne. It continues in Dream On, when the couple asks V to look into the security firm that guards their home.

Endings
At the end of Dream On, V chooses what to tell Jefferson. V can reveal the truth about the people controlling him, or say only that the security firm took money from many clients, keeping him in the dark. Elizabeth fears the group will harm them if they resist. Whatever V says, the couple then cut contact with V to protect their campaign.
