Dream On
Type Side Job
Giver Jefferson Peralez
District Charter Hill
Region Westbrook
Location Reconciliation Park
Previous I Fought the Law

Dream On is the side job in which Jefferson and Elizabeth Peralez ask V to look into a break in at their penthouse in Charter Hill. It follows I Fought the Law, starting with a call from Jefferson a couple of days later. What looks like a simple intrusion turns into evidence that someone is tampering with the couple's minds, and V must decide whether to tell Jefferson the truth.

Story

A Favour for Politicians

Johnny is wary. The journal says the Peralezes may seem decent and down to earth, not snug in the corporations' pockets like the rest. But they are still part of the ruling elite, and if they have to step over V to reach the top, they will not hesitate. V should not believe for a second that they are different.

At the penthouse, Jefferson explains that he saw an intruder in the apartment several nights ago. He shot the man, then lost consciousness. Oddly, their private security firm, SSI, says nothing happened. Jefferson leaves for an election meeting, and Elizabeth helps V look around.

The Apartment

Elizabeth shows V around, then lets V explore. V can scan things like their law school diplomas, their wedding photo and family pictures and ask about them. It soon becomes clear that Elizabeth's memory is muddled, and her stories do not always add up.

Upstairs, V finds patched bullet holes and chemically scrubbed blood. The trail leads past a broken smart glass screen and on to a wall that hides a secret room. Inside, cables lead up a ladder to the roof, where an old fashioned transmitter stands. Johnny says it looks like the kind Militech used in the Second Central American War. Such antennas need a clear line of sight, so V can spot another antenna in the distance, next to a van.

The Van

The van, a heavily modified Emperor 620 Ragnar, is parked in Japantown. When V gets close, it drives off, and V has to follow it to a Maelstrom compound near the All Foods Factory in Northside. V gets to the van and connects to its access point. On one of the agents, V can find an encrypted shard about something called Project Condin.

The van's data shows that a hidden organisation is reshaping the minds of Jefferson, Elizabeth and others, to change their personalities and behaviour. The process has already wiped parts of their memories. V downloads the data, but someone deletes it straight away.

Elizabeth and Jefferson

Elizabeth meets V at a ramen shop in Japantown. She has already noticed Jefferson changing, and fears she is changing too. Knowing her husband, she begs V not to tell him the truth. On the way to meet Jefferson at Reconciliation Park, V's eyes are hacked, and an unknown caller warns V not to cross the line by telling Jefferson what V has learned. A man watches from a balcony across the park.

Choices

Tell Jefferson or Not

To tell Jefferson the truth, say that it is not Holt but that he is being brainwashed, that they are in his head, ask about the hidden room, warn him that they are too powerful, and tell him that Elizabeth knows and was protecting him. He is shocked, and angry with Elizabeth. He decides to play along with the people controlling him until he can expose them, risking his life and his family's. Johnny praises V for it.

To keep the secret, as Elizabeth asked, say there is not much to add, that SSI was taking money from Holt, and that the dead cannot talk. Jefferson decides to win the election first and deal with Holt afterwards. Later he deletes his account, and Elizabeth blocks V.

Giving Up

If V cannot find who is behind the spying, V can call Elizabeth and admit it. She is disappointed, says she will tell her husband to look into Holt, and pays V.
