Royce, whose real name is Simon Randall, is the leader of a Maelstrom crew based at the All Foods plant in Northside. Nobody forgets him, and not only because of his glowing red optics. What stays in the memory is his manic, erratic and paranoid behaviour, fuelled by stimulants. Either his gangers love him or they hate him. If he truly is mad, he may also be the most brilliant and methodical madman in the city.
Biography
Taking Over
Royce seized control of one of the key Maelstrom crews by force, taking the place of the old leader, Brick, whom he locked in a cell. He is impossible to control and impossible to predict, and those who deal with him can never be sure he will not shoot them on a whim. Yet he has run Maelstrom's business with surprising success, perhaps because the only way to stay alive around him is to trade with him.
The Flathead
Brick had agreed to sell a stolen Militech Flathead bot to Dexter DeShawn. When V and Jackie arrive at the All Foods plant to collect it, Royce refuses to honour the deal and demands more money. The way V handles the meeting decides how it ends. Militech also has a stake in the bot, and its agent Meredith Stout gives V a credit chip to pay with, which hides a virus.

Personality
Royce is twitchy, aggressive and paranoid. He shouts, threatens and changes his mind without warning, and he trusts nobody. Under the noise he is a calculating businessman who knows the worth of what he holds.
Relationships
Brick is the leader he overthrew. Dexter DeShawn is the fixer who bought the Flathead. Meredith Stout and Militech want the bot back. Ofelia, known as Patricia, is one of his gang.
Jobs
Royce is the central figure of The Pickup and is named in The Ride, when Dex explains the job. He can return in Second Conflict at Totentanz.

Endings
If V pays Royce with a clean chip, he keeps leading the gang, helps V fight off Militech's attack on the plant and later appears at the Totentanz club. If the virus goes off, or if V fights instead, Royce attacks, and the final fight against him takes place in a powered exoskeleton. V can also kill him during the talks.
Notes
The choice made in The Pickup decides whether Royce lives and whether V fights him. Removing the virus from Meredith's chip before paying keeps Royce from noticing the trap.
