The Ballad of Buck Ravers is a side job in which V goes looking for bootlegs of old Samurai concerts. It starts after Playing for Time, when V passes a street guitarist in the market near Jig Jig Street in Japantown, Westbrook. Johnny remembers that Samurai once played at the Rainbow Cadenza club nearby, and wonders whether any recordings of those nights survived.
Story
Old Recordings
Johnny insists in the journal that he has not gone sentimental. He does not care whether he still has fans in the city. If someone hears one of his tracks and feels the itch to take to the streets, that is great, but the old recordings do not matter any more. V can find them and listen to them, he does not care. Although, while on the subject, he wonders how things are over at the Rainbow Cadenza.
The street musician strums away, and Johnny asks whether V likes his music. After a short exchange, he mentions that bootlegs of Samurai concerts might still be around, and that the club where the band used to play is close by.
The Rainbow Cadenza
The club is gone. In its place stands a food joint, and Johnny has a few words about that. Inside, the staff point V to the cook, who in turn points to an old vendor at a stall nearby. The man keeps bothering them about the old club.
Karim Noel
The vendor, Karim Noel, talks at length about Samurai and Johnny before V can even ask about bootlegs. He will not sell the recording to just anyone. V has to prove to be a true Samurai fan, and Karim starts to quiz V, who calls on Johnny for help.
Once the recording is V's, Johnny has his say about Karim. The man may be a big fan who knows every lyric, but he never took the time to understand that Johnny was calling for change. Karim is still stuck in the 2020s.

- Finish Playing for Time.
- Approach the street guitarist in the market near Jig Jig Street and talk to Johnny.
- Go to the old Rainbow Cadenza club and talk to Johnny.
- Ask the staff about the club, then talk to the cook behind the bar.
- Find Karim Noel's stall near the restaurant and talk to him. Ask about Samurai relics.
- Persuade him that V is a true Samurai fan.
- Talk to Johnny.

Choices
Proving V a Fan
V can tell Karim a story about a corpo newbie at Arasaka who misses a deadline, and the ghost of a man who splits him in two. When V adds that the ghost is Johnny Silverhand, Karim is impressed. V can also claim to have listened to Chippin' In since childhood, which wins him over too and gets the recording.
Rewards
The job earns the SAMURAI Concert Recording, along with experience and Street Cred. Karim also sells other wares at his stall.
