The Prophet's Song

The Prophet's Song
Type Side Job
Giver Garry the Prophet
Region Watson
Location Misty's Esoterica

The Prophet's Song is a side job built around Garry the Prophet, the conspiracy preacher who stands outside Misty's Esoterica in Little China. After listening to his five wild theories over several visits, V follows his tip to a secret meeting at an old factory in Kabuki, where Maelstrom hands a mysterious chip to two corporate agents. The job can be started early, but the full story opens after Playing for Time.

Story

Garry's Theories

Garry preaches on Urmland Street, right outside Misty's shop. Each time V passes, he rants about a different theory, and V can talk with him about it. His topics include cyberspace, reptilians, vampires and Kiroshi optics. Each theory comes up only once, and some answers depend on what V has already seen in the story. The theory about vampires only becomes available after Playing for Time.

The Nomads

During his last rant, about nomads, two Aldecaldos walk up and take offence at being called werewolves. V can talk them into leaving, or help Garry fight them off. Afterwards, Garry tells V he has heard about a mysterious meeting due to take place somewhere in Kabuki.

The Old Factory

The journal is excited. A secret meeting of reptilians at midnight: V cannot miss it. If V wants answers to the questions that have troubled humanity forever, such as whether there is life in the cosmos, whether anyone pulls the strings and why they let evil happen, this may be the only chance. And the answers might lie in an old factory in Night City.

At the factory, Johnny talks with V, and the two hide and wait. A group of Maelstrom members arrives and meets two corporate agents, Jane and John Doe, handing over a mysterious chip. V must take the chip.

The Disciple

When V returns to Garry's spot with the chip, Garry is gone. His disciple says he was taken away. With a donation, the disciple tells V what she knows about the chip.

The Prophet's Song Map Location and Walkthrough

The Prophet's Song map location:

The Theories

  1. Find Garry outside Misty's Esoterica in Little China, at any time except his sleeping hours early in the morning.
  2. Listen to all five of his theories and answer him. Walk well away between visits for the next rant to appear.
  3. Defend Garry from the nomads during the fifth theory: fight them, or talk them down as a Nomad V or after Queen of the Highway.

The Factory

  1. Talk to Garry and go to the old factory in Kabuki.
  2. Talk to Johnny outside.
  3. Find somewhere to hide and keep a lookout.
  4. Seize the conspirators' chip: attack before the exchange, kill everyone during it, or follow the corporate agents afterwards and take it from them. A grenade thrown at both groups during the exchange works well.
  5. Search the corpse for the chip.

The Disciple

  1. Crack the chip in the inventory to reveal a cryptic message if desired.
  2. Show the chip to the prophet, then talk to his disciple.
  3. Donate to the disciple and ask about the chip.
  4. Talk to Johnny.

Choices

The Nomads

V can settle the quarrel with the Aldecaldos peacefully or fight them. A peaceful end needs a Nomad V, or Queen of the Highway finished.

The Chip

The corporate agents and Maelstrom must be dealt with before they leave. If they get away with the chip, the job fails. Without a big enough donation to the disciple, she will not talk, and the job cannot be finished.

Rewards

The job pays experience and Street Cred, and V keeps the mysterious chip, Destroy After Reading.

Tips

Visiting Misty's shop while the job is active can be risky: the nomads may show up and fight Garry while V is away, failing the job unseen. Save before the factory, as the other party's car can get stuck and break the job.

Notes

  • Reading only the first letter of each word of the chip's encrypted message spells out "Project Oracle Command Execute Plans".
  • When Johnny asks who V expects at the meeting, V can answer the Spanish Inquisition, a nod to the Monty Python sketch. Johnny admits he did not expect that.
