Yaiba is a Japanese maker of motorcycles and the occasional rare car, and its slogan is to ride the cutting edge. It was founded in Osaka by Daigo Shinohara and it sells deliberately few of anything. The Kusanagi is the bike Night City knows, and street racing gangs favour it above everything else. What Yaiba does not sell openly, it sells by invitation.
History
Yaiba works the exclusive end of the market on purpose. Its most desirable machines are released in small numbers, which keeps them out of ordinary hands and keeps their value where the company wants it.
The ARV-Q340 Semimaru was one of those: an ultra rare sports car built in a limited run. The ASM-R250 Muramasa went further still. It is a motorcycle built to order and configured by the buyer, sold through an invitation-only showroom event that Yaiba organised with Kiroshi at the Kiroshi campus in Charter Hill.
The company kept a tower of its own on Sutter Street in Kabuki, though it no longer holds it.
Vehicles
Yaiba builds three model lines. The Kusanagi is the one on the streets, a fast road bike sold as the CT-3X on the Autofixer netpage and in a "Peacekeeper" version. The Muramasa is the invitation-only machine, and the Semimaru is the limited run sports car.
The custom Kusanagis belong to the gangs. The "Mizuchi" is the Tyger Claws' bike, built in the style of the old Japanese biker gangs, and the "Misfit" is the Animals' version. The "Akashita" is a third. Mint owns a Semimaru of her own.
Notes
- Yaiba names its machines after Japanese blades and myth, which is where the company's own name comes from as well.
