The Ash of War: Carian Retaliation is an Ash of War in Elden Ring that grants the Magic affinity and the Carian Retaliation skill. It is picked up mid-game, in Liurnia of the Lakes.
Carian Retaliation swings the shield to dispel incoming sorceries and incantations, turning the absorbed magic into glintblades that hover over the wielder and fire at nearby foes. Against physical attacks it works like a regular parry, staggering the attacker and opening them to a critical hit. Its parry window is the most generous of the parry skills. It suits shield users who face spellcasters often, in PvP or against caster enemies.
Stats
It grants the Magic affinity and a Whetblade can switch it to Standard, Heavy, Keen, Quality or Cold. The skill costs 8 FP. It fits Small Shield and Medium Shield.

Skill
Time the swing so the spell meets the blue field in front of the shield, then let the glintblades home in on the caster. FP is only spent when a spell is absorbed, so missed or physical parries cost nothing extra. Glintblade damage is fixed, so the shield's affinity and upgrade level hardly matter for the counterattack.
