The Heater Shield is a Medium Shield in Elden Ring.

The Heater Shield is a medium-sized metal shield, comparatively easy to handle, and like other metal shields it reliably negates physical damage when guarding, which made such shields highly trusted on the battlefield. It is the starting shield of the Vagabond and is sold for 1,500 runes by the Twin Maiden Husks at the Roundtable Hold. It weighs 3.5, needs 10 Strength and comes with Parry as its default skill. Its easy access makes it a common first shield. It suits starting melee characters.

Skill

Parry costs no FP. Timed against a foe's melee attack, the parry deflects the blow and breaks the attacker's stance, opening them to a critical hit. It costs no FP, and the exact motion varies with the shield or weapon carrying it. It is the weapon's default Ash of War, so another can take its place.

Guarding

With a guard boost of 52, a blocked hit that would cost 100 stamina only costs 48. It blocks all physical damage, and against the elements it holds up best to magic, at 43%, and worst to lightning, at 27%. Running out of stamina mid-block breaks the guard and opens the wielder to a critical hit.

Build

A dependable first shield, blocking with full physical negation and parrying with its default skill.
