The Pillory Shield is a Small Shield in Elden Ring. It shows up mid-run, in Caelid.

The Pillory Shield is a pillory made to punish serious felons and pressed into use as a shield, sturdy wood that is still only a makeshift tool. It lies on a corpse in one of the locked cells of the Gaol Cave in Caelid, a dungeon opened with Stonesword Keys, in the first northern cell reached after pulling the lever. Its use as a device of prolonged suffering lets it raise vitality by 50, improving resistance to death blight. It accepts Ashes of War and suits a build that wants extra death blight resistance from its off hand.

With a guard boost of 50, a blocked hit that would cost 100 stamina only costs 50. Only one other small shield guards better, at 51. It lets 18% of physical damage through, and against the elements it holds up best to magic, at 46%, and worst to fire, at 23%. A block that drains the last of the stamina bar breaks the guard, leaving an opening for a critical.

Build

A light off-hand shield for an agile build, used to parry melee attacks and punish the opening with a critical hit, and to block when a parry is not possible.

Stats	Strength 10 to wield it, Vigor 40 then 60, Endurance 20 to 30 for the stamina to hold a guard, with the main weapon's stats taking the rest
Affinity	Standard keeps its full guard values, since an affinity changes a shield's damage negation while guarding.
Ash of War	Parry or Golden Parry for parries that open enemies to critical hits, or No Skill, its default, to keep the main weapon's skill usable while guarding.
