The Ash of War: Storm Assault is an Ash of War in Elden Ring that grants the Quality affinity and the Storm Assault skill. It can be picked up early in a run.
Storm Assault channels the tempests of Stormveil: the wielder leaps high through a burst of storm winds, then plunges down to thrust the weapon into the ground, unleashing more winds on impact. The winds damage everything nearby at takeoff and landing, and the plunge deals heavy pierce damage and stance damage. The leap carries hyper armor at liftoff and super armor in the air. It suits Quality builds running spears, halberds, twinblades and heavy thrusting swords.
Stats
It grants the Quality affinity and a Whetblade can switch it to Standard, Keen, Heavy, Fire, Flame Art, Lightning, Sacred, Magic, Cold, Poison, Blood or Occult. The skill costs 22 FP. It fits Heavy Thrusting Sword, Twinblade, Spear, Great Spear, Halberd and Thrusting Shield.
How to Get Ash of War: Storm Assault Guide
- Dropped by a Teardrop Scarab on the western cliffside of Stormveil Castle.
- It is reached by jumping down from the outer rampart west of, and just north of, the Rampart Tower Site of Grace, the same route that leads to the Marred Wooden Shield.
- Once obtained, it can be duplicated by trading Lost Ashes of War to Smithing Master Hewg at the Roundtable Hold.

Skill
The takeoff winds and the plunge combo into each other, so landing the first wind usually guarantees the thrust. It is a strong way to trade through attacks thanks to its armor, but the plunge can overshoot targets that are too close. The storm winds ignore the weapon's status effects and most weapon buffs, so it works best on a high damage weapon.
