The Lance is a Great Spear in Elden Ring. It has the highest physical attack of any great spear in the game. It is an early find in Limgrave.

The Lance is a type of greatspear with no blade, only a long, conical body designed to pierce, heavy and hard to wield but said to show its worth in horseback combat. It sits on top of a ruined structure at a camp of Godrick soldiers southwest of the Deathtouched Catacombs in Limgrave, reached by dropping from the nearby cliff. It has the highest physical damage of the great spears and long reach, though its size makes it awkward in tight rooms, and it can attack while a shield is raised. Despite its description, it gets no special bonus to mounted attacks. It scales with Strength and Dexterity at D, accepts Ashes of War, and suits a Strength or Quality build that blocks with a shield and counters with piercing thrusts.

Stats

The Lance is the hardest-hitting great spear on a standard build at 123 physical, and one of only two great spears that accept an Ash of War, so it can follow a build through any respec. Charge Forth suits its thrusting reach, and a Heavy infusion takes it to A Strength. It is also available from the start of a run.

Skill

Charge Forth costs 16 FP. The wielder lowers the weapon to the hip and charges forward, carrying the momentum into a powerful piercing thrust. Holding the button extends the charge to cover more ground before the thrust lands. Only the final thrust can be parried, and the long reach makes it a fast way to close distance on a distant target. It is the weapon's default Ash of War, so another can take its place.

Suggested Build

Paired with a medium shield or greatshield for guard counters, it pokes at long range and breaks stance with a thrusting Ash of War.
