Ulcerated Tree Spirit is a dungeon boss in Elden Ring.
The Ulcerated Tree Spirit is a huge serpent of bark and roots that guards several places across the Lands Between. The first waits at the bottom of Fringefolk Hero's Grave, right beside the starting area. The other two guard the Minor Erdtree on Mt. Gelmir and the end of Giants' Mountaintop Catacombs. The fight matters because each boss spirit drops valuable loot, and two of them carry a Golden Seed that adds a charge to the healing flasks.
Lore
The tree spirit is a giant, snake-like body of pale bark that looks like a mass of branches and roots. Swollen red welts cover its hide. It crawls on two clawed arms and drags a long tail behind it.
Tree spirits dwell close to the Erdtree and its roots. They breathe searing golden fire, and most of them carry a Golden Seed.

Phases
- Phase 1: The spirit fights with claws, tail and bites, dealing physical damage.
- Phase 2: The spirit hunkers down and bursts in a golden explosion, then adds holy damage to its attacks for the rest of the fight.
Attacks
- Charge Grab: it roars, climbs up and lunges with its mouth open; roll to the left as it rushes in.
- Double Charge: a first lunge is followed by a second grab lunge; roll left twice and stay calm through the follow up.
- Golden Breath: its mouth glows yellow before a long stream of golden fire; sprint sideways and then close in on its flank.
- Claw Swipes: one swipe from each arm with a short pause between; roll through each swipe toward its body.
- Tail Whip: it coils its tail around its back and lashes across; back away during the wind up, then roll.
- Claw Slams: it raises a claw and stomps in a fixed rhythm; roll clear of the first slam and punish after the last.
- Head Flop and Neck Swipe: it slams its head down in front and may swing it across; roll to the right and strike its neck.
- Golden Flame Pillars: it cranes its neck up and glows, then pillars of golden fire erupt from glowing spots on the floor; sprint away and avoid the marked spots.
Tactics
- Bring fire damage, such as Fire Grease or Fire Pots, and gear that raises holy defense for the second phase.
- Stay close to its left arm, where most claw and head attacks overshoot.
- Punish the slow claw slams and head flops with one or two light attacks, then reset.
- Back away from the tail wind up and roll through the lash.
- Sprint away at once when it hunkers down and glows, because the explosion that follows hits very hard.
- In phase two, avoid blocking where possible, since its attacks now carry holy damage through a shield.
- Spirit Ashes help split its attention, which opens its flanks.
