Madness Ore is a brown metal marbled with glowing gold veins, from the Shivering Isles by way of the Saints and Seducers Creation. Two ores smelt into one Madness Ingot, and Madness armour holds the highest base rating of any cuirass or shield in the game.
It Cannot Be Mined
No madness ore vein exists anywhere in Skyrim or on Solstheim. The ore turns up occasionally in dungeon boss chests and is stocked by Khajiit caravan traders after Ri'saad's note about new wares, and that is the entire supply.
At 110 gold it is the most valuable ore in the game, which is a fair reflection of how hard it is to accumulate.
Before You Can Use It
The recipes come from Evethra's Journal, obtained through the miscellaneous quest that the Note on Amber and Madness Ore starts. Crafting also needs Ebony Smithing, so 80 Smithing with its prerequisites paid for.
