Hammered out of bronze over Deer Hide, the Bronze Plate Cuirass is the first metal chest armour you can build in Valheim, and the one most players are still wearing when they first walk into the Swamp. It gives 8 armour, or 14 when fully upgraded. Worn with the rest of the Bronze Armor set, it is part of a 24 armour rating, which turns a 100-damage hit into 76.

How to Craft

It is made at a level 1 Forge from:

  • 5x Bronze, made at a Forge.
  • 2x Deer Hide, dropped by Deer.

Bronze Bronze Black Forest Forge spawn Bronze
Deer Hide Deer Hide Meadows - spawn DeerHide

When to Use It

It is early-game armour. It needs Black Forest materials, so it comes after Eikthyr and the Antler Pickaxe.

Upgrades

It can be upgraded 3 times after crafting, and each level needs the station one level higher than the last. The other figures on this page are for quality 1, so this table shows the full upgrade path your own copy is on:

2 Forge (Level 2) 10 1200

Properties

  • -5% Movement speed
  • Movement -5%: this is what wearing it costs you in speed, and in the cost of a dodge roll.

Notes

  • It lowers movement speed by 5%, and heavy chest and leg penalties add up, so a full heavy set slows you by 10% before a shield slows you further.
  • Armor lowers physical, fire, frost and lightning damage, but poison and spirit damage go straight through it.
  • Each upgrade level adds 2 armor.
