To catch a Northern Salmon you first need a Drake Trophy, because nothing else will bait it, and then the ice water of the Deep North.
How to Get It
Frosty Fishing Bait is made at a Food Preparation Table from twenty ordinary Fishing Bait and one Drake Trophy, a rare drop from the Drakes circling the Mountains. Both the plain bait and the Fishing Rod come from Haldor, so you have to find him first. Then sail north and cast from the shore or the deck. These are the hardest fish in the game to land, and they drain stamina fastest while they run, so eat before you cast.
Quality
A fish does not carry stars. Instead it has a quality from 1 to 5, rolled when it spawns: most waters give a 20% chance to step up a level, while the Ashlands and Deep North give 15%. A higher-quality fish is visibly larger, weighs more and cleans into more Raw Fish at a Food Preparation Table.
