Haldor
Haldor is the first person in Valheim who wants your money rather than your life. He is a Dvergr in a red hood, sitting behind a counter in a lit camp somewhere in the Black Forest, and he is there from the moment your world is created, whether you have found him or not.
Lore
Haldor is a Dvergr, the same race as the engineers whose towers stand in the Mistlands, and the only one of them interested in a Viking for anything other than target practice. How he ended up alone in a forest full of Greydwarves with a fire, a bench and a sign is his own business, and he will not talk about it.
His camp is placed when the world is generated, roughly 1 500 m or more from the centre, so every seed hides him in a different spot and no two players find him in the same place. A tame Lox named Halstein stands beside the wagon and pulls it, and the camp is surrounded by a shimmering dome that enemies cannot enter.
Where to Find Him
Each world has one camp in the Black Forest, never closer than about 1 500 m to the middle of the map. The camp is lit and walled, with a wagon, a canopy, barrels, tables and display racks. Walk or sail within roughly 320 to 450 m of it and a permanent bag marker appears on your map.
Sailing along Black Forest coastlines beyond that distance is usually faster than searching inland. Once the icon is on your map, the camp stays at that location for that seed for good.

The standout early buy is the Megingjord for 950 coins, which raises your carry weight by 150 and goes in the accessory slot. The Dverger Circlet (620) gives you hands-free light in dungeons and crypts. The Fishing Rod and bait open up fishing as a way to get food. Later unlocks include Ymir Flesh and Thunder Stones after The Elder, permanent inventory row upgrades after Moder and The Queen, and Eggs after Yagluth for starting a chicken farm.
Haldor also buys valuables: Amber, Amber Pearls, Rubies and Silver Necklaces. A full stack of Silver Necklaces is worth 600 coins, so a couple of good Burial Chamber or crypt runs usually pay for the Megingjord.
Notes
- The protective dome cannot be destroyed and keeps every hostile creature out while you trade.
- Coins weigh almost nothing, so carrying a large purse is easy.
- Wider Pockets and Deeper Pockets are permanent character upgrades, and you can buy each one only once.
- The Megingjord and the Wishbone share the accessory slot, so you can only wear one of them at a time.
- Placing a portal just outside the dome makes every future visit quick.
