The Ekhidna is a Hybrid, a larger and stronger relative of the Siren and the lamia. Ekhidnae haunt the coasts and waters of Skellige. They make every crossing by boat a dangerous one.

Lore

Arike of Hindarsfjall gave his son this advice before his first voyage alone: "Out at sea, if you hear a beautiful woman singing, turn the ship around at once. You understand? Even if it means sailing straight back into a storm."

Sirens and their kin lure men close the way skilled hunters use wooden ducks to lure drakes. They use their own bodies as bait. They can take the shape of beautiful maidens with silver-scaled tails in place of legs. Once a naive sailor comes within reach, the fair faces turn into fang-filled, fish-like maws. The lovely tails become sharp, deadly talons.

One legend claims these creatures were once friendly towards men. On rare occasions, they even accepted the clumsy courtship of a sailor. Today they are openly aggressive, perhaps soured by the many kidnappings carried out by frustrated sailors. They show no sign of good will, so the silver sword should come out the moment one is spotted.

Behaviour

Ekhidnae and their kin usually hunt in flocks. They use their numbers and their ability to move with ease through both water and air. On the ground, though, these creatures are almost helpless.

Weaknesses

Coat the silver sword with Hybrid Oil. A well-timed blast of Aard knocks an ekhidna out of the air. Once it is down, it is very open to the silver sword. Igni is also effective, and a Grapeshot bomb hurts it badly.

A threatened or wounded ekhidna lets out a terrifying shriek. The shriek stuns its opponent while the ekhidna escapes, and its sisters swoop down for an easy attack.
