The Siren is a Hybrid that uses its own body as bait to lure sailors close. Flocks of Sirens crowd the coasts and waters of Skellige.
Lore
The bestiary entry opens with advice from Arike of Hindarsfjall to a son about to sail alone for the first time. Out at sea, a beautiful woman singing means only one thing: turn the ship around at once. That holds true even if it means sailing straight back into a storm.
Sirens and their cousins, the Lamias, hunt the way a hunter uses wooden ducks to draw in drakes. They can take the shape of beautiful maidens with silver-scaled fish tails instead of legs. Once a sailor comes within arm's reach, the fair faces turn into fish-like mouths full of fangs. The lovely tails become sharp, deadly talons.
One legend says Sirens and Lamias were once friendly to men. Now and then, it claims, they even accepted a sailor's clumsy courtship. Today they are fiercely aggressive. Perhaps the many kidnappings by frustrated sailors soured them. Whatever the truth, they show no goodwill now, and a Siren on sight calls for a silver sword.
Behaviour
Sirens hunt in flocks and use their numbers well. They move as easily through water as through the air, and they switch between the two as they surround their prey. Sailors in Siren waters can expect the flock to go after their boat.
On the ground, a Siren is almost defenseless. A threatened or wounded Siren lets out a terrifying shriek. The shriek stuns its attacker while the Siren escapes, and its sisters swoop down to strike in that moment.
Weaknesses
Coat the silver sword with Hybrid Oil. Igni works well against Sirens.
The first task is to get them out of the sky. Damage their fin-like wings to force them down. Aard and Grapeshot both do this, and so does a well-timed sword strike against a diving Siren. Once a Siren hits the ground, finish it off at once before it can take wing again. A crossbow bolt can also bring one down.
