Melusine is a bloodthirsty Ekhidna, one of the Hybrids. She lives in a huge complex of caves in the mountains near the village of Svorlag, on Spikeroog in Skellige. She is the target of Contract: Here Comes the Groom.

Lore

For many centuries, the islanders gave the caves near Svorlag a wide berth. Melusine had made them her lair. She was so powerful that some islanders worshiped her as a semi-divine being. An altar to Melusine still stands inside the caves.

A witcher sees her differently. Melusine is an extremely powerful monster, but a monster all the same, and that means she can be killed. The job calls for the best bolts, a solid silver blade and a steady hand.

The ekhidna is a stronger relative of the Siren and the lamia. Sirens and lamias lure sailors close by using their own bodies as bait. They can take the shape of beautiful maidens with silver-scaled tails in place of legs. Once a sailor comes within reach, the fair faces turn into fang-filled, fish-like maws. The lovely tails become sharp, deadly talons. One legend claims these creatures were once friendly towards men. Today they are openly aggressive, perhaps soured by the many kidnappings carried out by frustrated sailors.

Behaviour

Sirens and their kin hunt in flocks. They move with ease through both water and air and swoop down on their prey. On the ground, they are almost helpless.

Melusine hunts from the sky. Britt of Svorlag saw her strike. "I... I saw a shadow... Great wings, like a cloud passin' o'er the sky. Then I heard him scream."

Weaknesses

Coat the silver sword with Hybrid Oil. Aard is the best tool in this fight. A well-timed blast knocks Melusine out of the air, and then she is very open to the silver sword. Igni burns her badly. A Grapeshot bomb also hurts her.

Melusine spends much of the fight in the air and swoops down to attack. A threatened ekhidna can also let out a terrifying shriek that stuns anyone nearby.

Contracts and Quests

Quest	Quest Giver	Location	Reward
Contract: Here Comes the Groom	Notice board	Svorlag, Skellige	Ekhidna Trophy, Ekhidna Mutagen

Melusine is hunted in Contract: Here Comes the Groom, on Spikeroog in Skellige. The notice hangs on the board in Svorlag. The bounty comes from Kevan. His sister Britt was to marry a man named Nils, but Nils has vanished. Kevan thinks Nils got cold feet and ran away. Britt insists that a winged monster carried him off to a cave in the south of the island.

Drowners lurk in the cave. Inside, Witcher Senses reveal the altar to Melusine, large siren tracks and strange scales. Deeper in the tunnels lies the body of Nils. Melusine attacks as soon as the body is found. After the fight, a trophy is taken from her and Kevan pays the reward. Britt can then hear the news in person. She gives an extra gift for believing her story.
