Abaya is a Water Hag, one of the Necrophages. She is old and experienced, and her lair lies in the caves beneath the cliffs of Kjerag, in the south of Ard Skellig. She is the monster behind a witcher contract at Kaer Trolde Harbor in Skellige.
Lore
Bjorg, a shipbuilder at Kaer Trolde, opens the bestiary entry. Bjorg has seen plenty of ugly sea creatures in a lifetime, from morays and lampreys to blobfish. Nothing came close to this one.
The bay below Kaer Trolde had an evil name. Fishermen who cast their nets there sometimes never came home. Something dragged oarsmen off their longships or tipped whole ships over. The locals blamed sea devils, the Skellige name for Drowners. The truth turned out to be far worse.
The bestiary says that beating Abaya called for Signs and, above all, a great deal of luck. The witcher who finally slew her relied on a few tricks instead of luck alone.
Behaviour
Abaya makes her home in the caves under the cliffs of Kjerag, beside the bay at the foot of Kaer Trolde. She hunts in the waters of that bay, where the fishing boats sail.
Weaknesses
Coat the silver sword with Necrophage Oil. Yrden slows Abaya down, Quen guards against her blows, and Igni also works well. Northern Wind is the bomb to bring.
Abaya fights like any Water Hag, only harder. Her powerful claws smash through any attempt to block or parry, so dodge instead. She can also blind a foe from a distance and then strike with a lightning-fast counterattack. Masking one's scent before the fight makes it possible to catch her by surprise.
