The Werewolf is one of the Cursed Ones, a person who turns into a beast that is part man and part wolf. Werewolves hide in dark, remote places in Velen and Skellige and come out under the full moon. They turn up early in the story, in quests around Crow's Perch.
Lore
Werewolves carry both a man and a wolf inside them. In beast form, they take the worst traits of each. From the wolf comes the drive to kill and the hunger for raw flesh. From the man comes a cruel and calculating mind. As the archer Elsa Vilge said, "Wolves aren't as bad as they're made out to be. Werewolves, though... they're every bit as bad and worse."
A werewolf's condition comes from a curse. The change happens outside the victim's control. When the werewolf turns back into a man, he has no memory of what he did. Otherwise he would surely go mad and take his own life.
Folk tales give werewolves grand names. Near Crow's Perch, peasants feared a beast they called the Wolf King. It turned out to be a common werewolf.
Behaviour
Werewolves live in dark and secluded places, such as caves in deep forest. They are most active at night and at their strongest under the full moon. A werewolf often has a pack of ordinary wolves at its side. It also heals its wounds at great speed.
Weaknesses
Coat the silver sword with Cursed Oil. Igni burns the werewolf. Devil's Puffball poisons it, and a Moon Dust bomb weakens it as well.
Its greatest strength is its healing. Once its health falls to about half, it grows stronger and starts to regenerate quickly. Keep up the pressure from that point, because a slow, careful fight only gives it time to heal.

Werewolves are fought in several quests across Velen and Skellige. In Wild at Heart, a secondary quest in Velen, the notice comes from Niellen, a hunter in Blackbough whose wife Hanna has gone missing. The neighbors offer clues, and Hanna's sister Margrit tries to pay the witcher to drop the search. Hanna's mangled body lies in the woods. The trail leads to an isolated shack, where notes prove that a werewolf is near. The lair lies beneath the shack, and the werewolf appears at nightfall. During the fight Margrit reveals the truth: Niellen is the werewolf. She loved him and brought Hanna to see him change, hoping her sister would leave him. Instead, Niellen killed his own wife. In the end, either Margrit is saved and Niellen is killed, or Niellen takes his revenge on her and then begs for death.
In Ciri's Story: The King of the Wolves, a main quest in Velen, the story is told by the Bloody Baron. Ciri meets a little girl named Gretka in the forest, who is afraid of the Wolf King. Ciri finds a mangled body, works out that a werewolf is to blame, and prepares an oil for her blade. She kills the werewolf in a cave and saves the man it was about to attack. The man then takes Ciri and Gretka to the Baron at Crow's Perch.
During The Whispering Hillock, a werewolf patrols the cave entrance beneath the great oak. Werewolves also appear in the contract Skellige's Most Wanted and in the secondary quests In Wolf's Clothing and Little Red.
