A Cool Metal Fire
Type Side Job
District Little China
Region Watson
Items Johnny's aviators

A Cool Metal Fire is the side job inside Chippin' In in which V hands Johnny Silverhand full control of V's body for a night. Johnny wants to find Adam Smasher and kill him himself. His trail runs from Cassius Ryder's clinic in Little China, Watson, to a club dancer named Ruby Collins, and the night that follows is very much a Johnny night.

Story

Wiping Smasher Out

Johnny is dead serious in the journal. He does not ask V for much, but he has to kill Smasher himself. Smasher thinks he is invincible, and worse, so does Rogue. Arasaka Tower has haunted her all these years. Enough is enough. Johnny is taking control just this once, finding Smasher, and wiping him off the face of the earth.

Cassius and Ruby

In V's body, Johnny downs a lot of drinks, and learns from Claire Russell where Cassius Ryder can be found. Cassius first asks Johnny which tattoo he wants. Then he talks about Jeremiah Grayson, a man who works for Adam Smasher. He also names Ruby Collins, a dancer at a night club and Grayson's ex girlfriend, known to be one of his associates.

The Club

Johnny goes to the club where Ruby dances. He watches her, buys champagne at the bar, drinks with her and with others in the club, and picks a pill, red or blue. He flirts and parties hard, picks a fight with the bouncers, and gets thrown out. Then he leaves with Ruby in a stolen car.

The Crash

Things heat up between the two on the drive, and Ruby gets so distracted that she crashes the car. They climb out of the wreck. Before leaving, a wounded Ruby scribbles a name on a pack of Morleys: Ebunike. Johnny takes a last drag of a cigarette, goes back to a motel and falls asleep. When V wakes, V has to face Rogue and Johnny about the night.
