Arasaka Tower
Type North American Division HQ
Region City Center
Sub-district Corpo Plaza
Owner Arasaka

Arasaka Tower is the North American headquarters of the Arasaka corporation, in Corpo Plaza. It is the tallest building in Night City and the heart of its skyline. To some it is a monument to corporate power, to others a symbol of oppression. The decisions made inside it shape the lives of everyone in the city.

History

The Old Towers

The tower stands on the site of the old Arasaka Towers. Johnny Silverhand and his crew destroyed them in a bombing during the Fourth Corporate War. Adam Smasher killed Johnny there, and his mind was stored by the Soulkiller program.

Rebuilding

Arasaka was banned from America for years after the war. When the Unification War ended, the corporation was welcomed back and given permission to build again. It chose the site of its old towers, cleared away the ruins and raised the new tower on the same spot. A piece of the old building was kept and turned into a memorial.

The new tower runs the financial and military operations of Arasaka across both Americas. It was built as proof of the corporation's triumph over its enemies, and only the best architects in the world were trusted with it.

Recent Years

Shortly before V's story, the mercenary David Martinez climbed to the top of the tower to reach one of its landing pads for flying cars. He came to rescue Lucy Kushinada, and his fight with Adam Smasher ended in Memorial Park below. After the death of Saburo Arasaka, his son Yorinobu becomes the head of the corporation and is often found on the upper floors.

Inside Arasaka Tower

Below Ground

A system of shock absorbers under the basement protects the building from earthquakes. Above it lie the netrunner control floors, where Arasaka's netrunners guard the company's systems, and several floors of parking.

Lobby and Offices

The lobby is plain and military in style, with sleek couches and glowing holographic plants. Every visitor passes a body scanner, and bodyguards and a heavy combat suit stand guard inside and out. A large screen above the lifts lists the corporation's achievements, and an announcer reads Arasaka propaganda in Japanese. The lifts play a short film about Saburo Arasaka's time in the Imperial Army and his rise as a business leader.

The counterintelligence floor holds the offices of Arasaka's spy teams. Susan Abernathy runs operations there, and Arthur Jenkins has his own office overlooking the plaza. A Corpo V starts the game at a desk on this floor. Above it are floors of offices and meeting rooms, and a floor laid out as a real jungle, with plants and the sound of forest animals. The board and the heads of the company's factions hold their most important meetings there.

The Hidden Floors

Near the top are floors that are listed nowhere, open only to the highest ranks and the Arasaka family. Very few people inside the company know they exist. They are built in traditional Japanese style, with wooden balconies and a small garden. Saburo Arasaka's office is here, a copy of his office in Tokyo, as in every Arasaka headquarters in the world. A hidden lift behind it runs straight down to Mikoshi.

The chief executive's floor at the very top is the most secure place in the tower. Visitors wait in a garden among plants before they are let in. The office has a screen that rolls up to show the city skyline, and a medical centre can be reached from it.

The Arasaka Memorial

The Arasaka Memorial stands at the foot of the tower and honours the victims of the blast. It is built partly from the ruins of the old towers, and it sets out to make visitors feel the disaster rather than only remember it. A glass walkway hangs over the shattered old lobby, and red lights copy the colour of the sky in the moments after the blast. Buddhist monks keep a flame burning outside. In the courtyard, rows of dark stone blocks stand for the countless lives lost. Some see it as a sincere tribute, others as careful image control by the company.

Jobs

The Corpo-Rat begins in the counterintelligence offices. The tower is also the goal of the last main jobs. Love Like Fire shows the original bombing through Johnny's memories, and the endings of the story lead to a raid on the tower and a descent to Mikoshi.

Notes

Adam Smasher and Arthur Jenkins are both found in the tower. A Tarot graffiti for the job Fool on the Hill, The Tower, is painted in an underground passage at its base.
