Biotechnica Flats

Biotechnica Flats
Class Sub-district
Region Badlands

Biotechnica Flats is a vast field of protein farm greenhouses in the south of the Badlands, owned by Biotechnica. It supplies more than half of Night City's protein. Much of the meat sold in the city starts life here as crickets or worms.

History

Biotechnica built its farms on a huge stretch of the southern Badlands. At least one earlier settlement ended up surrounded by them, and its residents were hired to work the farms.

Life in Biotechnica Flats

The most popular product is cricket protein. A cheaper line grinds worms into a paste called SCOP, which is shaped, flavoured and dyed into something that looks vaguely like meat and sold across the city.

Few people in Night City think about where their meat comes from. Whether it is beef ramen at a market in Kabuki, a kebab in Westbrook or a burger in Heywood, most of it starts on the protein farms. The name SCOP once stood for Single Celled Organic Protein, and it now covers many kinds of synthetic meat.
