Family Matters is a Search and Recover gig from El Capitan in Rancho Coronado, Santo Domingo. Juliet Horrigan, one of El Capitan's favourite netrunners, steals data from Zetatech for him, but she has gone silent for two weeks after her last job. El Capitan wants his data first and an explanation second. What V finds in her house on Gibson Street is a family tragedy.

Story

Work and Family

El Capitan is hurt in the journal. He likes everyone to know he is patient and understanding, and that there is a time for work and a time for family. Without a good balance, everyone would go mad. But disappearing for two weeks over "family issues"? Is that what Juliet thinks of him? He loves her for all the great data she has pulled out of Zetatech, but she is starting to hurt his feelings. V is to find out what is going on, but the data she owes him comes first.

The House

The Horrigan house is quiet. Upstairs and downstairs, V finds traces of something terrible: a trail of blood, a first aid kit, and shards that tell the story. The data shard is locked in a safe in the kitchen, and the key is in the basement.

Rose

Juliet's sister, Rose, had a lot of cyberware installed for her job. When she was fired, she moved in with Juliet and her husband, Cy. Over time, Rose fell ill and began to show signs of cyberpsychosis. Juliet tried to treat her with strong painkillers and antipsychotics, but Rose needed bigger and bigger doses to stay lucid. Juliet even asked Viktor Vektor, but Rose was too far gone, and he could only suggest calling MaxTac before she hurt someone.

After Rose broke Cy's arm, he left for the Sunset Motel to be safe. Juliet refused to go and kept caring for her sister. A month later, Rose became convinced Juliet was poisoning her, and stabbed her in the back. Rose still roams the basement, next to Juliet's body.

Getting In

  1. Go to Juliet's house on Gibson Street in Rancho Coronado.
  2. Open the front door with Technical Ability, the back door with Body, or climb onto the front roof and enter by the open upstairs bathroom window.

The Search

  1. Look for the chip, and find the safe in the kitchen.
  2. Search the house to find out what happened: scan the blood trail and first aid kit in the first room on the right upstairs, and read the shards in the living room and kitchen.
  3. Use the computer near the safe to view the basement camera if desired.

The Basement

  1. Go down to the basement and neutralise Rose.
  2. Take the safe key from near Juliet's body.
  3. Return to the kitchen and open the safe.
  4. Deposit the datashard in the drop point.

Choices

Rose

Rose has to be dealt with to reach the key. When V reports back, El Capitan is saddened by Juliet's death, and shocked to learn she even had a sister.

Tips

Rose is a cyberpsycho, so be ready for a hard fight in a tight basement.

Notes

  • The drugs Juliet gave Rose were lidocaine and betahaloperidol, an antipsychotic used across Night City to fight cyberpsychosis.
