Space Oddity is a side job that starts with two homeless men, Brandon and Rick, tinkering with a corporate briefcase they cannot open. They stand by a rundown store in southern Rancho Coronado, Santo Domingo, just outside the Piez fast travel point. The case holds more than they could ever guess: the key to a package dropped from orbit, which a Militech team also wants.

Story

The Briefcase

The journal says every bum in town dreams of hitting the jackpot with something dug out of a dumpster. A briefcase full of eddies, a shard full of company secrets, a cutting edge implant worth a few dozen grand. The trouble is that whoever lost the thing is usually still looking for it, and not in a good mood. V should take the case off their hands before the owner shows up and uses them for target practice.

The two men found the case in a dumpster next to a corpse. V can buy it from Brandon or scare them into handing it over.

The Dead Corpo

A scannable blood trail leads from the men to the nearby dumpsters, where the owner's body lies. On the hapless corpo, V finds an access card that opens the case. Inside is a computer with a single file, launch.exe. Running it sends a signal that brings something down from orbit, and a new marker appears about two kilometres south, in the Badlands.

The Pod

A Militech response team arrives at the drop point too, seven heavily armed soldiers. Once they are dead, V opens the pod. Johnny says it holds a valuable painting, probably from some wealthy highrider on the Moon.

Space Oddity Map Location and Walkthrough

Space Oddity map location:

  1. Find Brandon and Rick near the store outside the Piez fast travel point in southern Rancho Coronado.
  2. Talk to them. Scare them off with 7 Body, or pay €$ 2,000 for the case.
  3. Scan the blood trail and follow it to the owner's body by the dumpsters.
  4. Examine the body and take the access shard.
  5. Slot the access shard into the case, or hack it open with 7 Intelligence.
  6. Browse the files on the computer and run launch.exe.
  7. Go to the drop point in the Biotechnica Flats, about two kilometres south.
  8. Defeat all seven Militech soldiers.
  9. Open the package and talk to Johnny.

Choices

Getting the Case

Threatening the men with enough Body gets the case for free. Paying them works too, but cuts into the final profit.

Rewards

Completing Space Oddity pays 768 experience and 1,727 Street Cred. It also rewards Untitled 18, Brancesi, 2021.

The pod holds the oil painting Untitled 18, Brancesi, 2021, which goes on display in V's apartment once looted. The job also pays experience and Street Cred.

Tips

Be ready for a hard fight at the drop point. The Militech soldiers can kill V in a few shots, so long range weapons such as precision or sniper rifles help. The Overwatch sniper rifle shoots through rocks and has a night vision scope, which helps, as the area is very dark at night.
