Treating Symptoms

Treating Symptoms
Type Gig
Fixer Mr. Hands
Region Pacifica
DLC Phantom Liberty

Treating Symptoms is a Phantom Liberty gig from Mr. Hands in Dogtown, Pacifica. The Voodoo Boys are blackmailing the technical staff of a corporation, and Indira Barazza is their latest victim: the netrunner Milko Alexis has threatened to hack her lungs unless she cooperates. Indira went to Mr. Hands instead. Milko works from the Luxor High Wellness Spa, and someone else is there with an interest in keeping him alive.

Story

Cooperate or Die

Mr. Hands explains in the journal. Indira Barazza is not the first, nor the last, to fall prey to the Voodoo Boys' blackmail. What is interesting is that the gang only seems to target technical staff at her corp. They made her an offer she could not refuse: cooperate or die. Indira chose a third way and called Hands. The Voodoo Boy threatening to hack her lungs is Milko Alexis, and V is to see that he leaves her alone, permanently.

The Supplier

Inside the spa, V meets the gang's supplier, Kyle, who sells the Voodoo Boys implants for their research. He claims not to know where Milko is, and that he had things under control until V showed up. Pushed against a wall and punched, or simply paid, he talks. The Voodoo Boys strip most of the implants to study their software and hunt for new exploits. The leftovers go into old combat robots, and one of those robots has proved very useful to them. Kyle offers to sabotage the server room where the robots are kept, so they will blow up.

The NetWatch Agent

Past the robots, V finds Milko jacked in, with a man standing beside him. He introduces himself as Alan Noël, an undercover NetWatch agent who has worked his way into the Voodoo Boys to break their network from the inside. He needs Milko alive, to ride his connection and learn as much as he can, and asks V to spare him.

Choices

Noël's Request

If V spares Milko, Mr. Hands calls after V leaves: Indira has been added to NetWatch's witness protection, safe from almost any attack. Hands adds a bonus for the trouble. Later, Noël writes that the operation uncovered the puppet master behind the blackmail ring, and sends V more money.

A Corpo V who used the life path line in the first talk with Noël also gets the side job Corpo of the Month. Noël mentions a stash he left near the Voodoo Boys' base in Luxor Heights, with more money and a netrunner skill shard.

If V kills Milko and Noël, the contract is filled as first planned. If V kills only Milko, Noël scolds V for ruining an expensive NetWatch operation, but lets V go without a fight.

Rewards

Completing Treating Symptoms pays €$ 8,000, 1,832 experience and 167 Street Cred. It also rewards Ogou.

The gig pays eddies and experience, with extra from Mr. Hands and Noël if Milko lives. One of the robots drops the Iconic pistol Ogou.
