The Voodoo Boys are a secretive gang of netrunners from Pacifica, rooted in Haitian culture and tradition. They defend the independence of the district and lead its mostly Haitian community. No one else in Night City is so deeply tied to the net. They hunt for the secrets of the old net and of what lies behind the Blackwall, and NetWatch has tried to destroy them for years without success.
History
From Haiti to Pacifica
The gang began with Haitian refugees. When climate change wiped Haiti off the map, many of its people came to Night City to work on the plan to turn Pacifica into a resort. The project collapsed in the Unification War, but the Haitians stayed. Locals called them the Voodoo Boys, after an older gang they seemed to resemble. The new Voodoo Boys made themselves the guardians of the Haitian refugees in Pacifica. Their true name is told only to members who have been initiated.
The Split
At the time of the game, Brigitte leads the gang, with Placide as her second. A split runs through it. Brigitte wants to break through the Blackwall and reach the beings on the other side. Wilky LaGuerre, known as Slider, thinks that is far too dangerous, and he has taken his people into Dogtown.
Dogtown
The Voodoo Boys of Dogtown live closer to the edge than their brothers and sisters in Pacifica. They take more risks, dig deeper into the dark corners of the net and earn more. In a way, the line between Pacifica and Dogtown is also the line between idealists and pragmatists. The Dogtown runners do business in the stadium, hire out their skills and protect the data of Kurt Hansen's guests, covering their tracks through the district's networks. Their bond with BARGHEST sometimes looks shaky, but so far Hansen has kept the quarrels small.

Way of Life
Most Voodoo Boys are netrunners, so cooling suits and neural implants are part of almost every outfit, along with dreadlocks, tattoos and charms made from the bones and skulls of small birds and rodents. The gang was first made up of voodoo priests and priestesses, an honoured caste in the Creole culture of the Haitian community. The Voodoo Boys break every rule there is and write viruses that can freeze a neural network. Netrunners across the city can at least recognise one of their viruses when it hits.
The gang is closed, secretive and distrustful of outsiders. Because the Haitian community of Pacifica is so close-knit and the police never come there, it is hard to know how many Voodoo Boys there are, how they are organised or what they truly want. What is known is that they probe the Blackwall in the hope of contacting the rogue AIs beyond it, which has earned them the hatred of NetWatch. They also have a long rivalry with the Animals.
Business
The Voodoo Boys make most of their money by hacking corporate databanks and accounts in search of secret data, breaking NetWatch's laws as they go. They also hire themselves out as netrunners for quick strikes in the net or for exploring the ruined parts of the old net. Theft of digital money and trading in information are probably among their other sources of income.
