Almost everything in Valheim attacks on a rhythm you can eventually learn. The Charred Warrior attacks on a rhythm and then lies about it: it winds up one strike and delivers a different one half a second late, straight through the parry you have already spent. It is the standard infantry of the Ashlands, a burnt swordsman with 600 health, no shield and no interest in defence, and it is the enemy that teaches the biome's real lesson.
Behaviour
It hunts in the open day and night, wakes to line of sight, never sleeps, and usually travels with twitchers on the flanks and a marksman somewhere behind. Inside 1.6 metres it uses two honest attacks on a three second cycle. The swing is a vertical slash across a three metre, 115 degree arc for 150 slash, and the thrust is a straight stab three metres forward for 160 pierce. The trouble is the two feints layered on top. The swing feint borrows the swing's windup and then lands a different slash about half a second later for 130. The thrust feint borrows the thrust's windup and comes up from below for the full 160. Both are timed precisely to catch a parry that has already closed. It carries no shield, never blocks and never parries you back. It just keeps swinging until one of you is finished, and it does not flee, heal or call for reinforcements.
Where to Find It
It is common through the middle of the Ashlands, with two roaming the open by day and no cap at night, and the night spawns despawn at dawn. It also spawns from Ashlands structures whenever a player wanders into range: uncommonly from a Monument of Torment, and from the elite version of the same, which only produces two-star warriors. Stars are possible on nearly every spawn, and a two-star with 1,800 health hitting for 300 a swing is a genuine boss-weight encounter in the open. Very rarely, once Fader has fallen, a lone starless warrior can appear at night anywhere in the Meadows, Black Forest, Swamp, Mountains or Plains, despawning at dawn. Warriors also arrive in force during the "The undead army marches" and "The dead have been summoned" events.

Strengths and Weaknesses
Everything depends on reading the feints. The honest practical answer is to start the parry and, if nothing connects, release and raise the shield again in time to block the real strike a beat later. If you are not confident, roll backwards out of the three metre arc instead: a dodge beats a mistimed parry every time, and its attacks do not track through the roll. It staggers once it takes pressure worth half its health bar, so a solid blunt weapon opens it up for a free burst once you have broken its guard. Arrows are a bad investment against it and flame-infused gear is worse, since it barely feels fire and turns thrusting damage aside. Spirit cuts deepest, and blunt, slash, frost and lightning all land at full weight. A tower shield with a high block skill makes the ordinary swing a non-event, and full Ashlands armour with a Fire Resistance Barley Wine running keeps the rest of the biome from finishing what the warrior started.
- It takes extra damage from Spirit.
- It shrugs off Pierce.
- It is barely troubled by Fire.
- It ignores Poison.
Drops
It drops Charred Bone every time, with a one-in-twenty chance at the trophy. Its sword is not yours to keep.

Level Variants
A creature can spawn at one of three levels, shown as stars beside its name. Each level is rolled separately when it spawns, so a two-star is rarer than a one-star. The difference goes beyond the numbers: a starred Charred Warrior is recoloured or larger, so you can see it coming.
