Nothing on dry land drops Chitin. You mine it off the abyssal barnacles that crust the back of a Leviathan, the false island drifting in the deep Ocean.
How to Get It
Sail deep water until you find what looks like a small rocky island studded with pale barnacles. Bring the longship alongside and mine the barnacles with a pickaxe. Every strike risks waking the Leviathan, and once disturbed it starts to submerge and takes everything still standing on it down with it, so work quickly and keep the boat within a jump. Coral Cod caught while fishing in the ocean are a slower second way to get it. Chitin is teleportable, so only the voyage out costs you time.
