Copper Ore comes from the green-veined copper deposits scattered through the Black Forest. Most of each deposit lies buried, so the dig always goes deeper than the boulder above ground suggests.
How to Get It
You need at least an Antler Pickaxe, crafted after Eikthyr falls, to damage a deposit; weapons do nothing to it. Dig away the soil around the exposed lump to uncover the rest of the rock, because the buried part holds far more ore than the visible cap. The noise draws Greydwarves and brutes, so wall the pit or keep watch while you swing. Ore cannot be teleported, so bring it back to the smelter by cart or karve.
Notes
- One way to farm Copper is to dig out the earth all around the deposit until it collapses in on itself.
- Like other metals, it cannot be teleported without a Portal Stone.
- A Troll's attacks leave normal terrain alone but do huge damage to copper deposits. If you have no pickaxe, or just want a change from the usual mining routine, a troll makes a good alternative.
- Smelting it into Copper burns coal. The smelter uses one coal every 15 seconds and takes 30 seconds per bar, so every bar costs two coal. It holds 20 coal and 10 ore at a time, and it stops if the smoke above it has nowhere to go.
