The two heads you need for the Early Axes sit in chests inside the abandoned houses scattered across the Meadows, so this pair is a lucky find, not something you can set out to craft. It deals 30 slash and 35 chop damage. At 65 total damage it ranks 13th among axes, so it is a step on the ladder, not the top of it.
How to Craft
You craft it at a level 1 workbench from:
- 4x Wood: Chop it from any tree.
- 1x Curious Axe Head: Found in a chest in one kind of abandoned house in the Meadows.
- 1x Mysterious Axe Head: Found in a chest in another kind of abandoned house in the Meadows.

When to Use It
This is gear for the opening hours. Everything it takes comes from the Meadows, so a character who has just stood up can use it.
Properties
It is the first dual-wield weapon in the game. The primary attack is a 4-step combo that lands 6 hits. You strike once with each axe, then make 2 movements that swing both at once, and that last pair deals double damage each. The secondary attack costs 16 stamina: you leap forward and slash with both axes for 2x damage.
It also chops what a bronze axe chops: Birch, Oak and the Ancient Tree. Coming out of a Workbench, that puts it a tier of woodcutting ahead of where you find it.
It all comes down to 2 rare heads and 2 kinds of house. The Curious and Mysterious axe heads come from chests in 2 specific variants of the Abandoned House, so this is a find, not a plan.
