A birch shrugs off stone and flint axes, so Birch Seeds stay out of reach until you have a Bronze Axe. The trees stand in plain view the whole time, scattered across the Meadows.
Farming
Each seed gives one plant, and it goes straight into bare ground with no tilling. Leave four to six metres clear around it, or the sapling will not grow.

How to Get It
Fell a birch with a Bronze Axe or better and the seeds drop with the trunk, though only about half of the trees drop any. The stump, large logs and small logs drop Wood and Finewood instead, which is the real reason to chop one. Planted birches drop seeds at a different rate from wild ones, so it pays to leave a wild stand for restocking. Plant the seeds with a Cultivator in Meadows, Black Forest or Plains soil.
