The Bronze Axe is the first axe that can chop down Birch and Oak, which makes it the key to all the Finewood growing around the Meadows rather than a weapon to plan fights around. It deals 40 slash and 40 chop damage. Its 80 total damage ranks 12th among axes, a step up the ladder rather than the top of it.
How to Craft
It is made at a level 1 Forge from:
- 4x Wood, chopped from any tree.
- 8x Bronze, made at a Forge.
- 2x Leather Scraps, dropped by Boars and Bats and dug out of muddy scrap piles.

When to Use It
It is an early-game axe. It needs Black Forest materials, so it comes after Eikthyr and the Antler Pickaxe.
Upgrades
It can be upgraded 3 times after crafting, and each level needs the station one level higher than the last. The other figures on this page are for quality 1, so this table shows the full upgrade path your own copy is on:
| Quality | Crafting Station | Slash | Chop (trees) | Durability | Resources |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Forge (Level 1) | 40 | 40 | 125 |
|
| 2 | Forge (Level 2) | 45 | 43 | 175 |
|
| 3 | Forge (Level 3) | 50 | 46 | 225 |
|
| 4 | Forge (Level 4) | 55 | 49 | 275 |

Properties
This is the axe that opens up the Black Forest. It is the first axe that can fell Birch, Oak and the Ancient Tree, and Ancient Bark is what the whole bronze tier of building and crafting depends on.
It splits its damage evenly between 40 slash and 40 chop, for 8 stamina a swing. That means half of its listed damage does nothing when you fight a Greydwarf rather than chop a tree.
Notes
- Chop damage only applies to trees, not creatures, which is why trees fall to an axe and nothing else.
- The trees an axe can fell depend on its tier. Stone and Flint axes can fell Beech, Fir and Pine. Bronze and Iron axes add Birch, Oak and the Ancient Tree. Only the Black Metal Axe and the Jotun Bane cut Yggdrasil Shoots and Scorched Trees.
- The first hit of the two-handed combo is by far the slowest at 1.58 seconds. The second and third take about 0.92 and 0.7 seconds and deal triple damage between them.
