Iron Buckler is made from iron and the bark of ancient trees, both from the Swamp, and it is a small shield meant for timing a parry rather than soaking a blow. It has 28 block armour, or 70 when you parry with its 2.5x bonus.
How to Craft
Craft it at a level 2 forge from:
- 10x Iron: Smelted from Scrap Iron in a Smelter.
- 4x Ancient Bark: Chopped from ancient trees in the Swamp.
| Name | Image | Biome | Crafting Station | Spawn ID |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Iron | Swamp | Smelter | spawn Iron
| |
| Ancient Bark | Swamp | - | spawn ElderBark
|
When to Use It
This is early game gear. Iron comes from Sunken Crypts in the Swamp, so it opens up once The Elder is down.
Upgrades
You can upgrade it 3 times after crafting, and each level needs the station built one step higher than the last. Every other figure on this page is for quality 1, so this table shows where your own copy sits:
| Quality | Crafting Station | Block armor | Durability | Resources |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Forge (Level 2) | 28 | 200 |
|
| 2 | Forge (Level 3) | 34 | 250 |
|
| 3 | Forge (Level 4) | 40 | 300 |

| 4 | Forge (Level 5) | - | - |

Properties
The 2.5x parry bonus is the whole point. It multiplies the shield's block armour on a successful parry, and a parry costs no stamina at all, while a block costs up to 10. A buckler out-parries a tower shield of the same tier even when that tower shield is simply blocking.
That works out to 28 armour, or 70 on a parry, which beats the Iron Tower Shield's 52 blocking on a shield that costs 5% movement instead of 10%.
It is the Swamp answer. Draugr telegraph their attacks slowly and hit hard, which is exactly what a parry build wants.
Notes
- A block uses up to 10 stamina, in proportion to the damage that got through. It fails if that leftover damage fills your stagger bar, which is 40% of maximum health, or if you run out of stamina.
- Block force is the knockback sent back to a melee attacker, and it scales from 50% to 100% with the block armour actually used.
- Weapons have their own parry bonuses too: 4x on a knife and 6x on Flesh Rippers. Both beat every shield, though only on the weapon's own small block armour.
