Nothing you wear on your head holds up in the Swamp until The Elder gives up the crypt key, and the Iron Helmet is the first thing worth taking to the forge once the iron starts coming home. It has 14 armour, 20 when fully upgraded, and ranks 8th among helmets. Worn with the rest of the Iron Armor set, it is part of a 42 armour rating, which turns a 100-damage hit into 58.
How to Craft
Craft it at a level 1 forge from:
- 20x Iron: Smelted from Scrap Iron in a Smelter.
- 2x Deer Hide: Drops from deer.
| Name | Image | Biome | Crafting Station | Spawn ID |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Iron | Swamp | Smelter | spawn Iron
| |
| Deer Hide | Meadows | - | spawn DeerHide
|
When to Use It
This is early game gear. Iron comes from Sunken Crypts in the Swamp, so it opens up once The Elder is down.
Upgrades
You can upgrade it 3 times after crafting, and each level needs the station built one step higher than the last. Every other figure on this page is for quality 1, so this table shows where your own copy sits:

| 1 | Forge (Level 1) | 14 | 1000 | |

Notes
- Armor lowers physical, fire, frost and lightning damage, but poison and spirit damage go straight through it.
- While your armor is less than half of a hit's damage, it is simply subtracted from the hit. Once it reaches half the damage or more, the damage taken becomes the damage squared divided by four times your armor, so doubling your armor halves the damage you take.
- Your armor rating is the total of the helmet, chest, leg and cape pieces you wear.
