The Bruxa is a rare Vampire that haunts Toussaint. Bruxae belong to the Blood and Wine expansion, and the first one is met early in its main story, in The Beast of Toussaint.

Lore

Bruxae are rare creatures, and that is good fortune for everyone else. Most live far from towns. They care a great deal about their own safety, so they make their lairs where nothing can take them by surprise.

Some bruxae settle near people. These avoid crowds and come out of their shelters only at night. At a glance they could pass for late travelers hurrying to an inn. Small details give them away: their close ties to birds, their piercing voices and the amazing speed of their movements.

An old piece of advice warns travelers in the woods. A place where several kinds of birds sing at once is a bruxa's territory, and anyone who enters it can say farewell to life.

Behaviour

Bruxae are much faster and stronger than men. Their greatest weapon is the power to turn invisible. They dart around with uncanny speed to confuse a foe, then strike from an unexpected side or from behind.

Their sharp claws come in a flurry of blows from every direction, and this hail of blows breaks through any guard. Once their prey is weak, they bite it and drink its blood. They also use a sonic attack, a scream that knocks a target down and stuns it.

Weaknesses

Coat the silver sword generously with Vampire Oil. Drink Black Blood before the fight, because a bruxa drinks the blood of any foe it weakens.

Yrden works well against bruxae, so lay it down before they close in. A Moon Dust bomb also helps. It cannot strip away the vampire's invisibility entirely, but it makes its movements much easier to follow.

Keep moving during the fight. A bruxa that vanishes is about to reposition and strike again. Dodge its scream, then close in and attack hard whenever it comes into reach.

Contracts and Quests

Quest Quest Giver Location Reward
The Beast of Toussaint - The Cockatrice Inn, Toussaint Golyat trophy
The Night of Long Fangs - Beauclair, Toussaint -

The first bruxa appears in The Beast of Toussaint, a main quest of Blood and Wine. The trail of the Beast leads to the Corvo Bianco Vineyard. Sounds of battle drift out of the estate, and the bodies of guardsmen lie on the ground, killed only moments before. The Witcher Senses show that the killer is a bruxa. Reading the bruxa entry in the bestiary at this point is an optional objective. The vampiress turns out to be in league with the Beast, yet she is not the Beast itself.

More bruxae join the attack on Beauclair in The Night of Long Fangs. The quest opens with a fight against a bruxa. Then the witcher crosses a city in chaos, with bruxae and Fleders waiting in its streets.
