Opinicus is an Archgriffin, one of the Hybrids. This powerful griffin nests in the hills just north of Aeramas' Abandoned Manor, in the forest outside Oxenfurt. It is the target of a level 35 witcher contract, so it belongs to the late part of the game.

Lore

Killers of all kinds sometimes try to compete with witchers as monster slayers. Mercenaries, knights errant and ambitious lawmen all try their luck. Such hunts usually end in a massacre. The beast walks away unharmed, enraged and out for revenge, and the problem only gets worse.

That is what happened in the mountains outside Oxenfurt, where a powerful archgriffin had built its nest. Once again, a witcher had to clean up after amateurs.

A long fight ended with the archgriffin dead. Some scholars in nearby Oxenfurt might accuse the witcher of wiping out an endangered species and upsetting the local balance of nature. The witcher did not seem likely to lose much sleep over it.

Behaviour

Opinicus is a fire-loving creature. It hunts in the forest around its nest, and blood trails and circling ravens mark its path.

Weaknesses

Coat the silver sword with Hybrid Oil. Skip Igni and fire bombs, because the archgriffin shrugs them off. Aard works against it, and so do Grapeshot bombs.

Watch out for its acid. It eats through even the thickest armor, and that leaves a fighter open to its razor-sharp talons. Opinicus also attacks from the air and dives down at its foe. Expect a long fight.

Opinicus Map Location and Quest Guide

Take the contract from the notice board in Oxenfurt.
Talk about the contract with the mercenary, Hans, at the mercenary camp.
Examine where the monster attacked using the Witcher Senses.
Follow the blood trail with the Witcher Senses.
Follow the ravens with the Witcher Senses to find the griffin's nest.
Return after dark, when the griffin is in its nest, and kill it.
Take a trophy from the griffin and collect the reward from Hans.

Opinicus is the target of Contract: The Creature from Oxenfurt Forest, a contract near Oxenfurt. The notice hangs on the Oxenfurt notice board. It leads to Hans, a mercenary waiting at a camp in the forest. Hans and a group of men tried to kill the beast themselves and failed.

The Witcher Senses show where the monster struck. A blood trail leads on from there, and then a flock of ravens points the way to the nest. The archgriffin is home only after dark. Arriving during the day means waiting until night. After the kill, take a trophy from the body and return to Hans for the reward.
