Chest Armor

Chest armour is the largest of Geralt's four armour pieces and carries nearly half his protection: a grandmaster chest piece is worth 240 against 87 to 91 for each of the other three.

Protection

Every piece is light, medium or heavy. Heavy protects most and slows stamina regeneration, light protects least and lets it run fastest, and medium sits between. The strongest of each:

Builds

Match the weight to the rest of the outfit. The general skills Cat, Griffin and Bear School Techniques pay out per piece of light, medium or heavy armour worn, and a witcher school set needs all four armour pieces plus the two swords for its six-piece bonus. See Witcher Gear for the sets.

An armorer sockets up to three glyphs into chest armour: a sign glyph for that sign's intensity, or from Hearts of Stone a glyph of Binding, Mending, Reinforcement or Warding.

Notes

• It is the only slot that takes a glyphword. Levity, Balance and Heft make every piece Geralt wears count as light, medium or heavy, so the chest can carry a whole outfit into one school technique.
• Many chest armour exist in several variants: a crafted one and found copies at Common, Master, Magic and Relic rarity, each with its own figures.
• The strongest chest armour outside the schools are the Toussaint relics from Blood and Wine, at levels 41 to 48.
• In New Game + every witcher diagram becomes a Legendary variant at the same spot, and Legendary pieces add the New Game + starting level to their own.
• With Reforge, Yoana at Crow's Perch and Éibhear Hattori in Novigrad change how a piece looks and leave its stats as they are.
