The Royal Wyvern is a huge Wyvern, one of the Draconids. This unique beast lives near Benek in Velen and preys on the wagons that use the road. It is hunted in a witcher contract with a suggested level of 23.
Lore
A good hunter knows the habits of its prey. Knowing which forest paths deer will take, where boars like to wallow and when a hare will leave its burrow is half the battle.
Most people do not realize that some monsters know this too. This royal wyvern from Velen had learned that flying high to spot prey from afar left it open to human eyes and arrows. It changed its ways. It began to lurk by the roadside and wait for army supply wagons instead.
The wyvern grew fat on salted pork and beer. In the end it looked more like a dragon than like the smaller members of its own kind.
The witcher finally killed it, though not without some trouble. With the beast gone, the soldiers could send food and equipment to the war once again. Whether that was a good thing or a bad thing is another question.
Behaviour
The Royal Wyvern makes its lair in a cave and an eyrie near Benek. Common wyverns share the eyrie with it.
Weaknesses
Coat the silver sword with Draconid Oil. Drink Golden Oriole before the fight. Aard is the Sign to use, and Grapeshot is the bomb.
This wyvern is much stronger and tougher than a normal one. A single blow from it can kill. Its charge is the attack to fear most, so dodge it every time. When the wyvern takes to the air to dive down, bring it back to the ground with the crossbow or a bomb.
Royal Wyvern Map Location and Quest Guide
- Go to Benek and talk to the refugee about the missing caravan.
- Find the missing caravan.
- Follow the trail to the royal wyvern's cave and climb to its eyrie.
- Kill the common wyverns at the eyrie, then kill the Royal Wyvern.
- Take a trophy from the Royal Wyvern.
- Return to Benek and collect the reward.

The Royal Wyvern is the target of Contract: Phantom of the Trade Route in Velen. A refugee in Benek asks for help, because a caravan has gone missing on the road.
The trail starts at the ransacked caravan on the road. It leads to the wyvern's cave and its eyrie. Common wyverns guard the eyrie before the royal wyvern shows itself. Its trophy and the sword Anathema can be taken from its body. The reward is paid back in Benek.
