The Wyvern is one of the Draconids. People often mistake wyverns for dragons, but they are much smaller and do not breathe fire. They are still extremely dangerous. Wyverns hunt in Velen, around Crookback Bog, and one of them is the target of an early contract.
Lore
Albina Tottelkampf lectured on natural science at Aretuza. In her view the most dangerous of all are the royal wyverns. Some circles call them the royal pains in the arse.
Royal wyverns are feared above all others. Like the monarchs they are named after, they are very bad-tempered and extremely deadly.
Behaviour
A wyvern often takes to the air during a fight. It circles its prey, then dives down at great speed to strike with its claws. On the ground it fights with its teeth, the talons on its feet and its long tail. Its attacks carry venom.
Weaknesses
Coat the silver sword with Draconid Oil and drink Golden Oriole against the venom. Aard and a Grapeshot bomb can bring a wyvern down to the ground.
Watch its dive. The wyvern can be seen coming, and a well-timed dodge takes it out of harm's way. On the ground, beware of its tail above all.
Contracts and Quests
| Quest | Quest Giver | Location | Reward |
|---|---|---|---|
| Contract: Patrol Gone Missing | Notice board | Nilfgaardian Army Group Center Camp, Velen | 50 crowns |
| Contract: Phantom of the Trade Route | Refugee | Benek, Velen | 250 XP and 250 Crowns |
A wyvern is the target of Contract: Patrol Gone Missing, in Velen. The notice hangs on the board at the Nilfgaardian army camp. A Nilfgaardian patrol has gone missing in the woods outside the camp. Witcher Senses at the abandoned campsite pick up the soldiers' trail, and the tracks soon point to a draconid. At the end of the trail waits the wyvern. Once it is dead, a trophy is taken from its body. Back at the camp, the reward can be taken or turned down.
The Royal Wyvern, a separate beast, is the target of Contract: Phantom of the Trade Route.
