The Monster of Tufo is a powerful Shaelmaar, one of the Relicts. It digs under the Tufo Vineyard, northeast of Flovive in Toussaint. It is a unique monster, hunted in a Blood and Wine witcher contract with a suggested level of 48.
Lore
Tremors from some unknown force deep underground shook the Tufo Vineyard. These were no ordinary earthquakes, which are unheard of in Toussaint. Buildings collapsed. Wine bottles fell from the shelves and shattered. Barrels burst and spilled their precious wine into the dirt. The owner of the vineyard blamed a beast living under the earth. The witcher agreed.
Strange noises also came from the vineyard's cellar. Behind the cellar wall lay a network of long, winding tunnels that stretched under the whole estate. A nest of Kikimores sat in one of the chambers. The kikimores were not the cause of the trouble, though. Whatever had dug these tunnels was much larger and far more dangerous.
A farmhand named Jean-Luc then went missing. The farmhand's trail led to the entrance of a large cave. There the witcher worked out what the monster had to be: a shaelmaar.
Behaviour
The Monster of Tufo lives deep in a cave and burrows long tunnels near the surface. Like every shaelmaar, it is blind. It finds its way by sensing vibrations and listening for sounds.
Weaknesses
Coat the blade with Relict Oil. Aard is the Sign to use, and Samum is the bomb. Axii is a poor choice against it.
The monster curls up into a ball and rolls at its target with huge force. While it is curled up, no blow can hurt it. Use its blindness against it. Stand in front of a wall or a boulder and wait for the charge. Aard or a Samum bomb draws the beast in. It slams into the obstacle at full speed and knocks itself out. Strike hard while it is down.
The monster can also dig itself into the ground and fling rocks in every direction. Back away until the attack ends. It often leaves itself open after an attack, which is the moment to hit back.

| Contract: The Tufo Monster | Notice board | Tufo Vineyard, Toussaint | 500 crowns |
The Monster of Tufo is the target of Contract: The Tufo Monster, a Blood and Wine contract in Toussaint. The notice hangs on the notice board in Flovive. The hunt can also begin by examining the monster's tracks. Monsieur de Bourbeau, the owner of the Tufo Vineyard, offers the reward.
The search starts in the vineyard's cellar after dark. A cracked wall hides the tunnels, and the kikimore nest lies beyond it. The eggs in the nest are destroyed during the hunt. Back on the surface, a woman on the estate tells of the missing farmhand. The farmhand's tracks, and then the monster's, lead into the cave. There the monster has to be lured out with shaelmaar bait. The bait is brewed from blood and sewant mushrooms.
Jean-Luc's silver pendant holds a lock of Madame de Bourbeau's hair. It reveals the affair between the lady of the house and the farmhand. The pendant can be handed to Madame de Bourbeau herself. Monsieur de Bourbeau has many flaws, yet the reward is paid down to the last crown. The sword Ami is looted from the monster's body.
