Philippa Eilhart is a sorceress, a former advisor to King Vizimir II of Redania and the founder of the Lodge of Sorceresses. King Radovid blinded her and now hunts her across the North. Geralt finds her in Novigrad in the quest Blindingly Obvious, after she has spent a long time trapped in the form of an owl. She then joins the fight against the Wild Hunt.
Lore
Philippa was once an advisor to King Vizimir II, called the Just, and a member of the Council of Mages. She later founded the Lodge of Sorceresses. She has played a major part in the history of the world, and in Geralt's life. No one can deny her talent, but she has also shown a sickly ambition at times.
Very reliable reports say she had a hand in King Vizimir's death. As a member of the Lodge, she is also linked to the murders of two other kings, Demavend of Aedirn and Foltest of Temeria. For this reason the woman once called the "Jewel of the Court at Tretogor" is now wanted by special forces of both the North and Nilfgaard. Vizimir's son, Radovid V, wants her most of all. At their last meeting in Loc Muinne he had her eyes gouged out. She still escaped, and now he wants nothing more than to put her head on a spike above the city gates. Philippa was once Radovid's tutor.
Story
Philippa is a master of the difficult art of shapeshifting. She escapes her pursuers by turning into an owl and hides outside Novigrad to wait out the worst. She looks into magic cures for her lost sight and takes real steps toward reviving the Lodge.
During her flight she seeks shelter with an old lover, a fellow mage. He still holds a grudge, so he tricks her and traps her in her owl form. After the witch hunters take him away, his house is looted. The owl ends up with Zoltan Chivay, who has no idea who she is. Zoltan then loses the owl in a card game to Dijkstra, her spurned former lover and bitter enemy. Dijkstra removes the dimeritium collar that kept her an owl. Philippa returns to her true form, overcomes her guards and starts tearing his bathhouse apart. Geralt and Triss arrive just in time. Geralt corners her and convinces her that they need her help. Philippa regains her freedom and joins the fight against Eredin.
Philippa works to rebuild the Lodge despite its troubled past. She offers Ciri a place in it as a full and equal member. She also helps Geralt find the Sunstone in Skellige, which he could not have found without her.
Philippa also has her own score to settle with Radovid. If Geralt joins the plot against the king, Philippa gives him King Vizimir's ring as bait. When Radovid reaches the bridge to Temple Isle, she steps out of a house, blinds him with a powder and stabs him in the back. She then turns into an owl and vanishes. In this way Philippa takes revenge for her blinding, and for the many mages who died in agony on Radovid's orders.
Relationships
Radovid V is her former pupil and her deadliest enemy. Sigismund Dijkstra was once her lover, and he has never forgiven her betrayal. Triss Merigold and Yennefer work with her to rebuild the Lodge.
