Wandering in the Dark is a main quest in Velen. Keira Metz leads Geralt to the hideout of a masked elven mage who was also looking for Ciri. The hideout lies in old elven ruins under the ground. The Wild Hunt has reached the ruins first, and it is on the same trail. The mage left talking images, called morphotic projections, to guide Ciri through his traps.
Wandering in the Dark Map Location and Quest Guide
Wandering in the Dark map location:
- Meet Keira at the entrance to the elven ruins.
- Follow Keira into the ruins until the Wild Hunt appears.
- Step through Keira's portal and kill the drowners where it drops Geralt.
- Find Keira and destroy the two rat nests with Igni.
- Follow the swallow paintings deeper into the ruins.
- Kill the wraiths in the cavern.
- Kill the two wraiths that take the shape of Geralt and Keira.
- Use Witcher Senses on the pool to find the horse symbol for Kelpie, Ciri's horse.
- Dive into the pool, swim through the flooded passage and touch the second horse symbol.
- Go back to Keira through the door that opens.
- Defeat the golem.
- Find the symbol that wakes the portal, and step through.
- Follow the Wild Hunt's warriors up the stairs.
- Stay under Keira's shield and kill the creatures from the rifts while she closes three portals.
- Fight Nithral, the Wild Hunt warrior, and kill the hounds he calls while he heals.
- Watch the mage's last projection at the end of the room.
- Use the Eye of Nehaleni from Keira to dispel the illusion, then follow Keira.

Notes
- The mage calls Ciri "Zireael", which means "swallow" in Elder Speech. This is why the swallow paintings mark the way.
- The last projection warns Ciri about the witches of Crookback Bog. This leads into Ladies of the Wood.
