(Don't Fear) The Reaper

(Don't Fear) The Reaper
Type Main Job

(Don't Fear) The Reaper is the secret ending of Cyberpunk 2077, a suicide run into Arasaka Tower by V and Johnny Silverhand alone. It is unlocked on the roof in Nocturne Op55N1, by staying silent instead of choosing who to ask for help. It is the hardest fight in the game, with no saving and no second try.

Story

A Blaze of Glory

To open this ending, V must have made the right choices at the end of Chippin' In. On the roof of Misty's shop, V waits about five minutes without choosing who to call. Johnny then says that it is hard to choose who will die for V, and proposes that the two of them go into Arasaka Tower alone. It is a suicide mission. It echoes the question Dexter DeShawn asked at the start of the story: live in peace as a nobody, or go down in a blaze of glory.

Arasaka Tower

The job cuts straight to the front entrance of the tower. V fights Arasaka samurai, special agents and combat robots in the lobby, then has to take an access token from the guards to use the lift. The lift takes a long time to arrive, and more guards keep coming. Below, V fights down to the mainframe level, where Adam Smasher waits with reinforcements.

Mikoshi

Once Alt Cunningham is uploaded to the access point and connected to Mikoshi, she offers V a choice: give the body to Johnny, or keep it. Giving it to Johnny leads to a version of New Dawn Fades. Keeping it leads to a version of Path of Glory. In both, Rogue is still alive.

(Don't Fear) The Reaper Walkthrough

Unlocking the Ending

  1. Make the right choices at the end of Chippin' In.
  2. On the roof in Nocturne Op55N1, do not pick anyone to call. Leave the choice open for about five minutes.
  3. Accept Johnny's suicide run.

The Lobby

  1. Fight the two Arasaka samurai and three special agents at the entrance.
  2. Defeat the guards and the two Arasaka robots.
  3. Follow Johnny to the lift and loot the access token from the guards.
  4. Call the lift and hold out until it arrives.

The Mainframe

  1. Fight down to the mainframe level.
  2. Defeat Adam Smasher. Snipers appear on the balconies and heavy troops on the ground during the fight.
  3. Decide Smasher's fate if desired.
  4. Let Alt connect to Mikoshi, then choose whether Johnny or V keeps the body.
  5. Cross the bridge into cyberspace if desired.

Choices

At Mikoshi, Alt asks who should keep the body. Johnny's choice leads to a version of New Dawn Fades, and V's choice to a version of Path of Glory.

Rewards

Completing (Don't Fear) The Reaper rewards Access Token (optional).

Tips

The job allows no manual saves, though it autosaves at the start, after descending to the mainframe level and just before Smasher. V's maximum health drops by a quarter at the start and keeps falling a little each time the Relic fails, so speed matters. Dying ends the game with the credits and the messages from the suicide ending, but the run can be resumed from the last autosave.

Bring the best weapons, armour and healing items, as every enemy is at the highest level.

Notes

  • The waiting time on the roof is about as long as the song this ending is named after.
  • The job has no journal entry.
