Changes

Changes
Type Main Job

Changes is the main job inside Mikoshi in which Alt Cunningham tells V the truth about V's body and offers the last choice of the story. It follows every ending path that ends with V connecting to Mikoshi: the raid with Rogue, the raid with the Aldecaldos and the secret ending. The Arasaka and Phantom Liberty paths skip it.

Story

The Vision

The job opens with a vision. V seems to walk again to the roof behind Misty's shop, as in Nocturne Op55N1. How it begins differs a little depending on what happened to Jackie's body after The Heist, but either way it leads into cyberspace inside Mikoshi.

Alt's Poem

As V walks towards a beam of light, Alt Cunningham recites a poem. After the raids with the Aldecaldos and the secret ending, she recites lines from The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock. After the raid with Rogue, she recites the end of Sailing to Byzantium. The light carries V into another part of cyberspace, where V and Johnny talk with Alt.

The Truth

The talk brings a shocking realisation. Alt has kept V's mind and Johnny's apart throughout the raid, but the long contact with Johnny's construct has damaged V's body beyond repair. Alt gives V a choice. V can return to the body with only a few months to live, or let Johnny keep it.

What Comes Next

If V returns to the body, the next job depends on the path. After the raid with Rogue or the secret ending, it is Path of Glory. After the raid with the Aldecaldos, it is All Along the Watchtower. If Johnny keeps the body, the story always ends with New Dawn Fades.

Choices

V or Johnny

Returning to the body gives V a few months of life and leads to Path of Glory or All Along the Watchtower, depending on the path. Letting Johnny keep the body leads to New Dawn Fades on every path.

Notes

  • After finishing Phantom Liberty on either side, V has extra lines about Project Cynosure or Songbird's power over the Blackwall.
  • The job has no journal entry.
