Kabuki Market

Kabuki Market
Type Marketplace
Region Watson
Sub-district Kabuki

Kabuki Market is the open air bazaar on the roundabout at the centre of Kabuki, also called Kabuki Roundabout. It is one of the most colourful shopping areas in Night City and has grown almost as shady as the black market of Dogtown. Big brands are sold here at very low prices. The Tyger Claws keep watch over it.

History

The Food Market

The bazaar grew up in the roundabout as an open market of food stalls, in the days when Kabuki was a Japanese district. A local Tyger Claws boss decided who could cook there, and only cooks who truly impressed him were given a stall. He also made sure the market's vendors got first pick of the raw ingredients. The food of Kabuki Market was said to be some of the best in the city. For years its only permanent building was a small traditional tea house, very popular with visitors.

A New Kabuki

When Arasaka came back to Night City, the alliance of Japanese companies that held Kabuki fell apart. Its members moved on, and the Japanese residents left with them. The Chinese community next door moved in. Inspired by the buildings of their homeland, they turned the market into a landmark of Watson that shows off the mixed cultures of the new Kabuki.

Life in Kabuki Market

The Roundabout

The market is open at all hours. Old friends meet here, children stare at the newest braindance adverts, and workers stop on their way to buy the latest goods. The stalls fill a central building in the roundabout and a lower passage around it. Bridges carry the market out over the street, and a lower passage leads to a smaller section to the south west.

Shops

Straight Shooters sells guns, Edge Net sells netrunner gear, and Buck-A-Slice sells food. The ripperdocs Bucks' Clinic and Dr. Chrome are close by, with Dr. Chrome just south west of the market. A locked garage door in the market hides a secret room, and Johnny Silverhand plays his guitar there.
