Play It Safe is the main job set during the Arasaka parade in Japantown, Westbrook. While Goro Takemura makes his move on Hanako Arasaka's float, V hunts down three snipers who threaten him, then faces Hanako's bodyguard Oda. It follows Gimme Danger and Life During Wartime, and starts with a call from Takemura.

Story

The Parade

Johnny was not invited to Saburo Arasaka's funeral, so he says this sad little parade will have to do, though he misses the confetti. Takemura plans to jump onto Hanako's platform, and Johnny thinks he must have a death wish. V's task is to deal with the snipers, and Johnny advises keeping an eye out for an escape route, because he can feel that this will go wrong.

The Snipers

The parade fills the streets of Japantown below while V climbs through the towers above it. Three Arasaka snipers watch over the route. V reaches each one in turn, through walkways, ladders, catwalks and stairwells guarded by soldiers, drones, mines and tripwires.

Oda

After the last sniper, V takes a lift to the 21st floor and pulls a netrunner out of the net. That brings Sandayu Oda, Hanako's bodyguard, who attacks at once. He slashes fast with his blades, and every so often runs off and turns invisible to heal. Takemura asks V to spare him.

Hanako's Float

With Oda dealt with, V connects to an access point, hacks into Hanako's system and switches off the security turret for Takemura. Through her computer, V watches Takemura make his move. Then V has to escape before the guards close in. The story continues in Search and Destroy.

Play It Safe map location:

The Start

  1. Pursue other jobs or wait for Takemura's call.
  2. Go to the bazaar in Japantown and talk to Takemura.

First Sniper

  1. Cross the footbridge when the parade starts and climb the long metal staircase.
  2. Follow the walkway and climb the ladder at its end. Or go through the double doors, climb a ladder and pull up through the opening above, watching for explosives.
  3. Take out the first sniper.

Second Sniper

  1. For the lower route, drop down from the first sniper, go down two ladders and open the grate at the end with a remote hack, which needs high Intelligence.
  2. Sneak up to the guard leaning out of a window, jump through it and climb the ladder on the left. Scan the sniper and take him out when he leans on the railing.
  3. For the upper route, take the lift on the north side to the 21st floor. Enter the small room and type 2906 into the keypad to reach Genjiroh, or open it with 20 Technical Ability.
  4. Climb the ladder at the end of the balcony and cross the catwalk. A panel collapses, so step back and sprint to jump the gap.
  5. Go through the grate and work down the ledges counter clockwise, avoiding or hacking the drones.
  6. Deal with the guard at the door, jump past or disarm the mine on the wall, and take out the second sniper.
  7. Jump or disarm the next mine, climb the stairs and take out the two guards as they lean out of the window.
  8. Follow the corridor outside and clear the drones and soldiers on the terrace.

Third Sniper

  1. Open the small building with Technical Ability and use its service lift to the foyer. Or jump onto the footbridge on the right and climb up.
  2. Take out the third sniper, who is surrounded by mines.

Choices

Oda

Takemura asks V to spare Oda. If V knocks him out instead of killing him, Oda comes back in Totalimmortal and helps V against Yorinobu's forces. Killing him ends his story, and Takemura is unhappy about it.

Rewards

Completing Play It Safe rewards Jinchu-Maru (missable) and Genjiroh (missable).

Two Iconic weapons can be found. Genjiroh lies in a locked room on the 21st floor, reached by the lift after the first sniper, behind the code 2906. The katana Jinchu-maru is looted from Oda after the fight.

Tips

Watch out for tripwires all the way up. The third sniper is surrounded by mines, so scan before moving in. Oda turns invisible to heal, so keep up the pressure when he reappears.
