Search and Destroy is the main job in which V meets Goro Takemura at his safe house in Vista del Rey, Heywood, after Takemura has kidnapped Hanako Arasaka from the parade. It follows Play It Safe. V tries to convince Hanako that her brother killed their father, until Arasaka forces led by Adam Smasher storm the building. Whether Takemura survives is up to V.

Story

The Safe House

Johnny cannot believe how badly things have gone. In the journal he jokes that he never makes mistakes, and now look: Takemura is hunted by every Arasaka soldier in Night City for kidnapping Saburo's daughter. Johnny could not have ruined the plan better himself. Still, Takemura wants V to come over. Johnny reminds V to knock four times, preferably with Takemura's head against a table.

After escaping the parade, V gets a call from Takemura. He has taken Hanako to his safe house on Vine Street in Vista del Rey. V must go to apartment 303 on the third floor and knock exactly four times. Any other number of knocks gets V shot.

Hanako

Takemura lets V in. After a talk with him, V sits down with Hanako and explains how her father died. She refuses to listen to either of them. Moments later, noises come from the hallway, and Takemura sends V to check. Seconds later, Arasaka troops led by Adam Smasher breach the building, and Smasher takes Hanako away.

The Collapse

The floor gives way under V, and V wakes on a pile of rubble a few floors down. Takemura is missing. From here, V can escape the building alone, as Johnny suggests, or climb back up through the floors to find Takemura, still pinned down in apartment 303, and fight out together. As long as V has not left the building, there is still time to go back for him.

The Sunset Motel

V finds shelter at the Sunset Motel in the Badlands. After a talk with Johnny, a car pulls up outside, and someone knocks on the door. The woman V lets in is a proxy. Hanako is using her to send V a message.

Choices

Saving Takemura

Saving Takemura keeps him in the story. If he dies here, he does not appear in the ending path that goes through Arasaka, chosen in Nocturne Op55N1. The rescue is the harder road, through many enemies, but the reward is worth it.

Rewards

Some time after this job, a mysterious text starts the side job Violence.

Tips

Knock exactly four times at the door. Stealth helps on the way back up to Takemura, as the floors are full of Arasaka troops.
