Worldly Possessions is a reported crime in Little China, Watson, at the waste collection docks on California Avenue. V finds the body of R.J. Griffin, a man buried in debt who hid what he had rather than pay. His shards lead across the city to an urn in the North Oak columbarium, where the man who tortured him is already waiting.
Story
Rummaging
The journal offers some street wisdom. When V sees a body, a little rummaging never hurts. People rarely die for no reason, and there is usually a bone to pick. Take a man deep in debt, who decides to keep what he has somewhere safe instead of paying it back.
Six and a Half Million
Griffin's shards tell his story. A debt collection firm called VENI, VIDI, VICI wrote to say it had bought his personal debt of six and a half million eddies. It demanded payment at once. If foreclosure did not cover the sum, the firm would collect his implants and his organs too. It also warned him that it works closely with the NCPD and the border patrol, in case he thought of leaving Night City.
A New Face
Griffin had a plan. He asked the North Oak Columbarium whether it checks what is inside the urns it holds. A customer service clerk replied that it does not, but pointed him to the rule on prohibited substances. A clinic also confirmed his booking for a twelve hour procedure: a full skin transplant, facial reconstruction, genetic camouflage and a new voice.
Ten Fingers
A last shard shows how it ended. A collector named Tyler tells his boss, Adam, that he had a word with their mutual friend. Griffin held out at first. After four fingers he had doubts, and after nine he was begging. Tyler took the tenth anyway, then got the coordinates and headed straight there.
